This relaxed adventure gives you a taste of canyoning the Canyoning New Zealand way—without stepping into a full canyon environment—perfect for anyone keen to dip their toes into the sport while keeping things easy and enjoyable. You’ll abseil, slide, splash and jump down a huge rock wall designed to mimic the best parts of canyoning, all under the guidance of friendly pros who love sharing the thrill. It’s hands-on, confidence-building, full of laughs, and absolutely still a canyoning experience—just crafted to suit beginners, families, and anyone wanting the fun without the technical challenge.

You do need to know how to swim but no other experience is needed, just bring your swimsuit and a sense of adventure.

No experience – no problem!

While no prior experience is needed, swimming ability, English speaking and a medium level of fitness is required. You’ll need to be physically able to strut your stuff in a wetsuit for up to 2 hours with climbing, abseiling and swimming as the main elements.

Important info: Participants must be physically able to complete the activity in the allowed time duration and it is at the guides discretion to ensure all participants suitability! Feel free to get in touch with our friendly team if you have any questions about your suitability.
8.45am – Meeting at our central pick up location, OUTSIDE the Eichardts Hotel, 2 Marine Parade, Queenstown, 9304

8.50am – Participants check in and are given a verbal safety briefing on the adventure

9am – Depart Queenstown and transfer out to the canyoning adventure site

9.15am – Arrive at site and participants are issued all equipment including wetsuits, socks and shoes, helmets, harnesses and safety equipment.

9.30am – Safety demonstration and explanation. Adventure time! You’ll get to abseil down a huge rock wall, climb, swim and jump allowing you to practise all the elements of canyoning!

11.30am – Changing and dressing, preparing for departure back to Queenstown

12pm – Arrive back at Queenstown, participants are dropped off

Our minimum age is legally set at 10 to join the fun, also for our young thrill-seekers aged 10 to 14, we ask that a supervisor aged 16 years or older tags along to keep the excitement flowing safely.

Our maximum age of 60 years is not legally set, for persons wanting to travel over 60 years old, we ask that they understand the trips physical requirements and safety information, please contact our friendly team for a 60 years plus exception on this tour.
Canyoning New Zealand is an adventure activity that is safety audited annually to the highest standards. Part of our responsibility is to ensure all participants understand the risks of participating prior to booking their tickets.

The trip is mentally and physically demanding and requires the participants to be English speaking, comfortable and confident with moving over uneven and possibly slippery terrain, being in the water and dealing with heights.
